COURSE MATERIAL 2023

Content: (1) Dynamics of infinite DOF systems and discrete-to-continuum transition; (2) dispersion principles explained by means of waves in strings; (3) bulk waves in unbounded isotropic and anisotropic classical continua: the acoustic tensor; (4) cube-cutting technique for the experimental evaluation of material constants.

Content: (1) Reflection, transmission and refraction of waves from interfaces; (2) guided waves in plates: shear and Rayleigh-Lamb waves; (3) semi-analytical methods for the determination of dispersion curves in waveguides and in periodic systems; (4) forced response of a waveguide: the principle of reciprocity.

Content: (1) Kinematics and dynamics of periodic discrete systems endowed with at-a-distance actions or rotational degrees-of-freedom: wave propagation and discrete-to-continuum transition. Propagation of bulk waves in Cosserat and Second-gradient continua
